You’re the Best: A Fun Interactive Handmade Card

This card’s outside is just the beginning of the fun!

This You’re the Best! card has a soft, watercolor-inspired look on the outside, but open it up and there’s a fun surprise waiting inside. I love creating cards that give the recipient something extra to discover when they open them—and this one definitely fits the bill.

The front of this card keeps things relatively simple, allowing the pretty colors and soft patterns to take center stage.

But once you open the card, the design really comes to life.

The inside features multiple panels with coordinating watercolor-style pieces, along with a bold YOU ARE THE BEST! sentiment right in the center.

I also added ribbon for a little extra texture and dimension.

The result is a card that’s cheerful, colorful, and just a little bit unexpected.

One of my favorite things about this card is how beautifully the patterned paper works with the overall design.

The soft washes of color give the card plenty of visual interest without making it feel busy. By keeping the other elements fairly simple, the paper gets to be part of the star of the show.

This is one of those designs where coordinating colors and patterned paper can do a lot of the work for you.

There’s something special about opening a handmade card and discovering that it isn’t quite what you expected. Here are the measurements for you:

  • Card base: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ (scored at 4 1/4); cut one inch in from either side up to the score line
  • Basic White for inside 4″ x 3 1/2″
  • DSP: (2) strips at 7/8″ x 4 1/8″, 1 piece at 3 3/8″ x 4 1/8″

After adhering the Basic White to the inside of the card, glue down the two 1″ strips down. Adhere your DSP to the strips and center part of your card. Wrap a length of ribbon around the center flap and tie a bow. Pop up your die-cut panels of DSP with some Dimensionals and voila – you are done!

Try it as:

  • A thank-you card
  • A friendship card
  • An encouragement card
  • A birthday card
  • A congratulations card
  • A just-because card

Change the colors and patterned paper, switch up the sentiment, and you’ve got an entirely different card.
