Joy to You (Card #1)

Who needs embossing paste when you have Enamel Effects?

A while ago, I saw a post by a demonstrator on the Artisan Design Team that used Enamel Effects and Masks to create some really cool backgrounds. Ask me who it was and my memory fails and search engines give me nada. If you know who it was, please drop that name in the comments so I can give credit.

Anyways, I finally got around to trying this neat technique. I cut a 2 circles out of Basic Black cardstock. I used Versamark and silver embossing powder on one to get that nice big sentiment. It’s from the Joy to You stamp set in the new mini catalog:

I took the second circle and placed one of the mask from the Artistic Mix Masks over it. I used the silver Metallic Enamel Effects and a palette knife to get that cool pattern. I basically squeezed a bunch of Enamel Effects on top of the mask and swept the knife over the mask to spread it about. I set that aside to dry for a bit and ran to the bathroom to rinse my mask off. I didn’t want that to dry with all that silver on it.

Once that circle was dry, I cut it in half. I embossed a layer of Basic Gray cardstock using the Snowflake Sky 3D embossing folder and adhered each half-circle to either end. That layer went on top of a Lemon Lolly layer – which was then adhered to a Basic Black card base.

I took some lengths of Silver trim (from the Gold & Silver Trim) and cut them in half to make them narrower. I adhered those to the back of the sentiment circle and place that circle on the card front using Dimensionals.

Have you trying using masks like this? You should – it’s so much fun!
