Warm Welcome Open Door Card

A brightly-colored card showing some support to it’s recipient!

I purchased this Warm Welcome bundle back in October – it was available as a pre-order to help celebrate World Card Making Day. I will openly admit – I have not used it since. And I don’t know why. It has such versatility and can be taken in so many different directions.

I took it out as part of my “Use It – You Bought It!” campaign and I’ll be featuring it all week on my blog.

As I was coming up with this design, the wind was howling and the sun kept hiding behind clouds. Ahhh – March – in like a lion, right? Well, I like the lamb part of March, so I went spring with this card. Some bright but warm colors – and of course a rainbow (looking forward to those April showers, I guess).

I started with a Melon Mambo card base cut at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ (scored at 4 1/4″). I embossed a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Gorgeous Grape using the Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder. I then highlighted some spots of this panel by dragging my Craft White ink pad over it. I adhered the purple panel to the card base using some multipurpose glue.

I stamped my door image on a piece of Flirty Flamingo card stock using Tuxedo Black ink. I cut this image out using the coordinating die from the bundle. To get the rainbow background for my open door, I took almost all of the colors from the Brights family, pressed some ink into the cover of the ink pad, and made some quick stripes of color with a watercolor brush on a piece of Basic White. Let this dry (you can speed it up with a heat tool) and then stamp the sentiment. I cut this piece out using the ‘inside door’ die from the bundle. I adhered the sentiment to the door frame using glue and then the door to the card front using Dimensionals. I also added some shading on the open door with a Flirty Flamingo blend.

What do you think? I really like the colors (even though purples and pinks are my first choices). Would you use a different color combo? Let me know which in the comments.
