Whole Latte Masking Techniques Week (Card #3)

Here’s another masking technique that I definitely love but don’t use a lot. Again – I am not sure why because it’s fun and you can go in some many different directions with it.

I used some color resist masking (with some added color block added in.) Here are the measurements quick:

  • Card base: Copper Clay (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ on the long side
  • Lost Lagoon: 5 7/16″ x 4 3/16″; scrap (at least 1/2″ tall)
  • Basic White: 5 1/4″ x 4″; scrap (at least 1/2″ tall)
  • A Little Latte 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper: cutting out coffee cups

To start, I stamped in Versmark the ‘coffee ring’ randomly over the Basic White panel. I covered in white embossing powder and set using my heat tool. I then blocked off sections with masking paper and blending some colors into sections. I wiped with a tissue when done so that the excess ink was removed from the embossed parts and really ‘popped’.

Those beautiful coffee images come from the DSP pack – you can fussy cut the images or use the coordinating dies. I also cut the corner images that weren’t full cups so that I didn’t waste anything.

I hope you enjoyed this technique. Another fun version is to lay down some color first, then stamp with Versarmark/heat set some powder, and cover the entire image with a darker ink so that you only get some pops of the underlying color. I’ll have to do that one soon.

Here are the product that I used:
