One Layer Spotlight Card

A handmade greeting card featuring an outline of flowers with a watercolor effect in pink, accompanied by the text 'you make a difference' at the bottom.

This card is inspired by the below card that I made for my swap group:

A handmade greeting card featuring colorful circular backgrounds in green, purple, and pink, with black leaf illustrations and the phrase 'You are seriously the best' prominently displayed.

This technique is called a one-layer spotlight.

A handmade card featuring a large floral illustration with soft purple shading and the text 'you make a difference' at the bottom.

To get this effect, a shape has to be cut out of a piece of paper (I used copy paper) and placed over your main image. You use blending tools to lay down some ink in the open space. I think it’s very pretty and simple!

Here are the measurements:

  • Card base: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ on the long side
  • DSP: 4 1/8″ x 5 1/2″
  • Basic White: 3 3/4″ x 5 1/2″

Here are the products that I used to make this card:
